Philip Deja is a Partner and Head of Corporate & Commercial at Streathers, advising founders, entrepreneurs, investors and family offices on corporate transactions and commercial matters. He works across mergers and acquisitions, investment, management buyouts, restructuring and complex commercial arrangements, supporting clients through both strategic transactions and day-to-day legal issues.
Philip regularly acts for founder-led and owner-managed businesses at significant moments in their development, such as succession planning, raising investment and preparing for sale.
He advises private equity investors and management teams on transactional matters, working alongside accountants, corporate finance advisers and tax specialists to ensure deals are properly structured and efficiently executed.
Alongside his client work, Philip is the firm's General Counsel and recently completed a four-year term as Managing Partner of Streathers' North London offices - an experience that gave him a firsthand perspective on the commercial and governance challenges businesses face from the inside.
What distinguishes Philip is his ability to combine City-trained technical expertise with a pragmatic, commercially focused approach. Clients value his responsiveness, clear judgement and long-term perspective, often working with him as a trusted adviser as their businesses grow.
“A lot of my work involves helping businesses at significant points – whether transactions, negotiations or new ventures. The rest is being the kind of lawyer clients can call when something unexpected comes up, because they know I understand their business well enough to give them a straight answer.”
His advice is tailored to each client’s objectives, with a focus on protecting value, maintaining momentum and achieving a workable outcome.

Beyond the Law
What keeps Philip busy away from the office? “I’d love to say travelling the world, experiencing different cultures, cuisines and music – but I have a young child so you’re much more likely to find me at a kid’s birthday party or playground these days, keeping up with the football, literature and music wherever I can.”

For many founders, selling a business is the culmination of years of work and one of the most significant decisions they will make. Yet most spend far more time building their company than preparing it for sale.
