Gabriel Grant

He is a highly experienced contentious probate lawyer and trust disputes specialist, advising clients on resolving complex inheritance disputes, probate matters, contested wills, trust litigation and estate administration disputes, often involving complex family structures, businesses and international assets.

Gabriel regularly acts for beneficiaries, executors, trustees, family members, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals in some of the most challenging private wealth disputes. 

Gabriel also heads up the firm’s probate department, leading a large team of exceptional  non-contentious associates, solicitors and others in the fields of estate administration, tax and associated issues. 

His personable approach, diligence and commitment to excellence have helped him build a reputation as a trusted adviser, making an often challenging process much more manageable for clients.

Recently, Gabriel has been involved in the following kinds of cases:

• Representing beneficiaries in high value estate litigation concerning challenges to the validity of wills, mental capacity, lifetime gifts and claims of undue influence and fraudulent calumny;
• Acting for a defendant in a high value Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 case;
• Acting in relation to a long-standing family trust and a large landed estate;
• Acting in applications for charging orders; 
• A case against the Crown Estate Commissioners in relation to bona vacantia freehold land; and
• Acting in company restoration and unfair prejudice petitions and associated litigation.

In a number of matters, Gabriel has been appointed by the High Court as an independent professional administrator to resolve and finalise long running contentious estates. 

Clients value Gabriel’s judgement and ability to provide sound strategic advice, using his knowledge of one area of law to inform another. He has developed a formidable reputation for effective negotiation and being able to secure the best outcome on clients’ behalf. He often attends mediations for clients. 

Gabriel’s work often has an international element and he has recently been involved with matters in jurisdictions such as the Isle of Man, BVI, Cyprus and the United States. Gabriel sits on the board of our international legal network, Euréseau.  

He has also established an insolvency practice which focuses on bona vacantia cases involving disclaimer, vesting orders and escheat.

Experience and Career Highlights

Gabriel has built a broad client base and a trusted network of professionals in over a decade of practice. His contribution to the firm’s growth in recent years have been key and has led to the opening of a number of the firm’s offices.  He currently leads the team at our Islington office. 

Prior to joining the firm, he worked on a number of prominent class action litigations at a well known UK law firm, as well as gaining experience at an international IP firm.   

Gabriel has contributed to the national press on private client matters as well as being a speaker at webinars. 

Beyond the Law

When Gabriel isn’t in the office he enjoys spending time with his family and two children, playing in a blues rock and roll band and challenging himself with various sporting endeavours of field, track and mountain.
